45th anniversary cover chosen

The cover art for the 2025-26 Crowder Quill edition has been chosen. The front cover will be graced by “Vovo’” by Eduardo Maria Pissarra da Costa Salema of Portugal. He is a student at Carl Junction High School and won gold in the 2D Art category.

“This piece is a homage to my grandma,” Salema said. “She is represented amongst the flowers in her garden and her beloved rooster.”

Salema provided the following biographical statement: Eduardo Maria Pissarra Da Costa Salema (April 3, 2008, Lisbon, Portugal) is a Portuguese native, currently based in Carl Junction, attending 11th grade in Carl Junction High School. During his high school career, Eduardo has had many artistic achievements: pieces featured in the MSSU art show, Artist of the Year at previous high school, two pieces featured on the Portuguese version of the Ickabog book by J.K. Rowling and has attended the prestigious summer school program of Drawing Matter in London. He is currently developing an AP drawing portfolio that develops the concept of personal experiences with culture, and being based in Missouri has helped him in the pursuit of his artistic practice.

The cover was adapted by Quill staff member Damien Pauley to create the back cover. The following shows the printer’s marks for the front and back cover:
